On March 3rd,2023, JAFIE convened its council meeting in Nanjing.
Lin Xiangguo, President ofJAFIE, delivered the Annual Work Report of JAFIE in 2022.
Executive Vice PresidentTeng Yong presided over the council meeting.
Shao Weiming, Vice Presidentof JAFIE, provincial and municipal leaders including Jiang Jinbing, Director-Generalof the Foreign Affairs Committee of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress, MaLianmei, Deputy Director-General of the United Front Work Department of CPCJiangsu Provincial Committee and Director-General of the Ethnic and ReligiousAffairs Commission of Jiangsu Province, and other relevant provincial andmunicipal leaders, as well as executive directors, directors, and overseas directorsof JAFIE, a total of over 80 people, attended the meeting.
In his report, PresidentLin recalled the main work of JAFIE in 2022. Firstly, it has maintainedcharacteristics to create brands and continue to play the unique role ofYangtze River International Forum as a think tank. JAFIE has strove to make “TheYangtze River International Forum” a high-end think tank featuring “China-USrelations”, and a dialogue platform for international exchanges, to study,discuss, and analyze hot and difficult issues in international politics andeconomy. On July 9th, 2022, taking the 50th anniversaryof the signing of the Shanghai Communique as an opportunity, JAFIE has overcomedifficulties to successfully organize the “2022 Academic Seminar of YangtzeRiver International Forum on ‘China-US Relations and World Order’”.
Secondly, it has opened upa wide range of channels to promote exchanges, and endeavored to create a newsituation of international friendly exchanges under the influence of COVID-19.In the face of difficulties and challenges, JAFIE took the initiative to seek changes, gave full play to the main role ofthe council members, relying on the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’sCongress, and actively explored new paths of foreign friendly exchanges and newmethods of effective work, so as to achieve continuous communication andcontact with overseas countries and regions, expanding the friendly exchangesand increasing the number of cooperation and exchanges projects. On October 21th,JAFIE attended the “Belt and Road” International Cooperation and DevelopmentForum on Agricultural Modernization host at Jiangsu University, laying a goodfoundation for carrying out friendly exchanges with the “Belt and Road”countries in the future. JAFIE has strengthened contact with overseas Chinesefrom the Philippines, Canada, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom,Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, Kenya, the Dominican Republic,Brazil, Argentina, Japan and other countries and regions, introduced to themthe work carried out by JAFIE, and encouraged them to contribute more to thepromotion of friendship and cooperation between Jiangsu and other countries andregions of the world. In addition, more than 10 overseas councilors have been developed,the Canadian Branch has been established, the preparations for theestablishment of branches in the United States, the Philippines and Australiahave begun, and branches in many other countries are in preparation, so as tofurther improve and upgrade the layout and capacity of overseas exchanges. JAFIEhas strengthened contacts and exchanges with the embassies and consulates ofCanada, the United States, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hungary, andsome African countries in China, as well as with organizations in Jiangsu and Nanjingin China, and discussed project cooperation in the fields including businessand economics, science and education, culture and sports.
Third, it has improved the system to facilitatedevelopment, and actively promoted the overall improvement of the operationalsecurity capacity of the JAFIE. With the Party-buildingwork as the leader, JAFIE has actively carried out special Party-buildingactivities and organizes the special study of the spirit of the 20th National Congress. JAFIE has promoted the construction of its internalorganization and set up the Business and Economics Sub-committee. It has alsostrengthened system construction, revised, supplemented and perfected variousworking systems of the Council to further standardize internal management andenhance self-construction.
Besides, the report alsoput forward the 2023 work plan and requirements for JAFIE. The Councildeliberated and adopted the Annual Work Report of JAFIE in 2022.
Next, Wang Yong, ExecutiveMember of JAFIE, Professor at School of International Studies, and Director ofthe Center for American Studies and the Center for International Politics andEconomics Studies, Peking University, made a speech on Current China-USRelations and International Situation.
