JAFIE holds China-U.S. Youth Salon in Nanjing

On October 14th, 2023, a China-U.S. Youth Salon was successfully held by JAFIE and Grandview Institution, which mainly focused on the challenges of global sustainable development and the efforts entailed forboth China and the U.S. to enter into cooperation in the fields like economy, society, culture, environment and technology to finally achieve the common goal of benefiting each other.

Teng Yong, Executive Vice President of JAFIE, and Ren Libo, Founder of Grandview Institution delivered warm welcome speeches in turn. Besides, Prof. Adam K. Webb, American Co-Director of The John Hopkins University - Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies (“HNC”), and Prof. Zhu Feng, Executive Dean of School of International Studies, Nanjing University and Executive Director of Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies, Nanjing University, on behalf of experts from the two sides, delivered introductory speeches respectively.

More than 20 youth scholars and international students representatives from The John Hopkins University - Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies, Nanjing University, Fudan University, Southeast University, Xiamen University, China Foreign Affairs University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing University Of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Boston University and Loyola Marymount University participated in the salon, during which they had heated discussion on topics including climate change, global health challenges, economic and financial problems, transnational crime, gap between rich and poor and the role of AI and other new technologies in global governance, so as to find out the common interests and goals that can be obtained and achieved by cooperation in the fields of economy, society, culture, environment and technology.

During the salon, participants were also exposed to a variety of traditional Chinese culture such as Chinese intangible culture, say, paper cutting, velvet flower making and lantern making, Jiangnan silk, tea ceremony culture including various teas like white tea, black tea, rock tea, oolong tea and dark tea, as well as wine appreciation, thoroughly experiencing the charm of traditional Chinese culture.

This salon has not only enhanced mutual understanding of youth from both sides and strengthened mutual cooperation, but further deepened the friendship among the youth.
