Shao Weiming hosts the guest from Switzerland

On June 27, Shao Weiming, Executive Vice President ofJAFIE, hosted Gérald BéROUD (Chinese name: Bai Hu), Executive Vice President of the Swiss-China Association, President of the French-speaking Section, and Honorary Resident of Jiangsu Province, in Nanjing.

Shao Weiming extended a warm welcome to Gérald BéROUD on his visit and reflected on the occasion five years ago when he hosted the Swiss delegation on behalf ofthe Foreign Affairs Committee of Jiangsu Provincial People’s Congress. He recalled that the encounter left a deep impression on Gérald BéROUD and led to a strong friendship. Shaofurther introducedJAFIE briefly, particularly emphasizing its long-standing philosophy of “making friends widely and making good friends.” He expressed hope that, with Gérald BéROUD’s extensive influence in Switzerland and Europe, the association could strengthen exchanges and interactions with Switzerland and the European region, creating more opportunities for Jiangsu enterprises to “go global” and promoting practical cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, science and technology, and culture.

Gérald BéROUD shared details of his visit to China and participation in various activities, expressing that, as an Honorary Resident of Jiangsu Province, he has a deep emotional connection with theprovince. He noted that 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland, as well as the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on friendly exchanges and cooperation between Jiangsu Province and the Canton of Vaud. Gérald BéROUD expressed his hope to promote collaboration between the Swiss-China Association andJAFIE, and warmly invited the association to organize a delegation of Jiangsu enterprises to visit Switzerland for research and investment. He emphasized that strengthening bilateral exchanges and deepening cooperation would help achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.

Zhang Hong, Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Committee Office ofJiangsu Provincial People’s Congress, and Wang Jian, Secretary-General ofJAFIE, accompanied the reception.
